Waltzes, the Spanish Riding School, Sacher cake? Check. They are all here in their familiar pomp. However, the former imperial city has awoken from its 19th-century slumber and is rapidly making up for lost time. The art scene is buzzing, fashion fares are taking place, and the interiors of defunct factories are being converted into much sought-after lofts. Nostalgic coffee houses stand side by side with chic sushi bars, while classy traditional shops now have cool concept stores as their neighbours.
Vienna has emerged as a new insider tip, but the fact that not everyone is aware of this development suits the locals just fine.
