SWISS and Lufthansa introduce piece concept worldwide for baggage transport

SWISS und Lufthansa are standardising their baggage policy for all flights worldwide as of 1 August. The introduction of the piece concept on a systemwide basis gives SWISS and Lufthansa customers a more generous free baggage amount on many flights. Attractive rates now apply for excess baggage.

General baggage guidelines

The price of your SWISS, Edelweiss Air and Lufthansa flights includes a specific baggage allowance. The free baggage allowance varies according to travel class, destination and your Miles & More status.  The free baggage allowance is stated on your flight ticket, or on your e-ticket confirmation document.

Baggage guidelines for SWISS Golf Travellers

1. Valid for SWISS, Lufthansa and Edelweiss Air flights worldwide (except Lufthansa flights to/from/via USA and Canada):

Members of SWISS Golf Traveller may transport golf equipment weighing up to 23kg as an additional piece of baggage, free of charge and in accordance with their Miles & More status and class of travel, on all flights operated by SWISS, Edelweiss Air and Lufthansa (excluding Lufthansa USA/Canada flights). A maximum of one piece of golf equipment per person may be transported. This baggage regulation cannot be combined with status-relevant conditions regarding additional golf equipment.

Example: as a SWISS Golf Traveller and Miles & More BASE member, you fly to Miami in the SWISS business class. In addition to 2 pieces of baggage weighing 32 kg, you can also check in a golf bag weighing a maximum of 23 kg at no extra charge.

2. Valid for Lufthansa flights to/from/via USA and Canada:

Lufthansa no longer offers free transport of golf equipment on flights to/from/via USA and Canada.

When travelling, always show your personal SWISS Golf Traveller membership card or your Miles & More American Express Golf credit card at the check-in. This is the only way we can guarantee that you receive free transport on flights operated by SWISS, Lufthansa and Edelweiss Air. Transportation costs for golfing gear arising as a result of your failure to show your SWISS Golf Traveller membership card cannot be reimbursed.
