EXCESS LUGGAGE BASED ON THE PIECE CONCEPT   

Unlike the weight concept, the piece concept applies when calculating tariffs for individual flight connections. Those tariffs are based on the number of luggage items. Please use the tables below for information on the current regulations.

Piece fee
You will have to pay this fee if you bring additional baggage items.
Example: You can bring 2 baggage items free of charge, but you are bringing 3 items.

Additional fee
You will have to pay an additional fee if your baggage exceeds the specified weight limit.

Any baggage item to be checked in directly at a check-in counter is limited to a maximum weight of 32 kg. That is why the additional fee only pertains to passengers in Economy Class.

Fare example
You are flying from Zurich to New York in Economy Class. Your baggage allowance is 2 baggage items weighing 23 kg each. But you are bringing 3 suitcases – 2 that each weigh 23 kg, and one that weighs 32 kg.

This is 1 more bag than stipulated. You will pay a piece fee of CHF 250.00 for this excess baggage. However, you will also have to pay an additional fee because one of the bags exceeds the weight limit of 23 kg.

1x piece fee Switzerland to the U.S.             CHF 250.00
1 x additional fee Switzerland to the U.S.    CHF 150.00
