Swiss Sun flying the new Airbus A320

28 March 2003

Swiss Sun, the Swiss International Air Lines charter subsidiary today (Friday) took delivery of its first new Airbus A320 in Toulouse. The aircraft has been specially configured for charter operations and, as an attractive novelty, features a camera mounted under the cockpit. For its charter operations SWISS will receive a total of four Airbus A320s, which will replace the Boeing MD-83 fleet.

The first new SWISS charter Airbus A320 will be operated exclusively for TUI, the tour operator. A second A320 will follow in June this year. The remaining two will be delivered in 2004. The configuration of the aircraft is tailor-made to meet charter operation requirements. The aircraft will carry 168 travellers and 11,222 kg of luggage. Swiss Sun offers the clients optimum quality, a first class product and excellent service. An important criterion in the selection of the brand-new Airbus A320 is the environment. The new jet is considerably quieter and its harmful emissions well below those of the MD-83

The new camera mounted under the cockpit will enable passengers to see take-offs and landings from an unusual perspective.

In the field of holiday flights, SWISS is collaborating with well-known tour operators from Switzerland, Germany and France and is operating to various destinations in the medium-haul range, including the whole Mediterranean region, North Africa, the Canary Islands, Egypt and Island.
