SWISS passengers support SOS Children’s Villages

18 March 2005

SWISS passengers donate money and miles every year to support the work of SOS Children’s Villages International all over the world. It’s an important contribution that raised over CHF 200 000 last year – funds that will now be used to provide a medical station at the SOS Holiday Camp in Caldonazzo, Italy.

SWISS has been collecting on behalf of SOS Children’s Villages International since September 2002. The airline distributes envelopes aboard its flights bearing the slogan “Your small change can make a big change”, into which passengers are encouraged to put any spare coins or foreign currency they no longer need. The programme has so far collected notes and coins in over 150 different currencies.

Last year, SWISS passengers donated a total of CHF 208 800.40 to SOS Children’s Villages International via these channels. The funds will be used to help finance a medical station at the organisation’s SOS Holiday Camp in Caldonazzo, Italy. SWISS is delighted that its passengers have been so generous in supporting SOS Children’s Villages and its invaluable work for children all over the world.

The SOS Holiday Camp in Caldonazzo, Italy hosts over 1 300 school-age children from some 40 SOS Children’s Villages in Europe every July and August, offering them a wide range of holiday activities. The camp celebrated its 50th anniversary on July 19, 2003.

Plans are already in hand for the donations which SWISS hopes to obtain from its passengers in 2005: these should be used to finance a “Swiss House” at the SOS Children’s Village in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, until the beginning of 2006.
