SWISS to introduce an additional daily New York flight

23 February 2006

SWISS is to offer an additional daily service between Zurich and New York from May 1. With the introduction of the new frequency, SWISS customers will have a choice of three daily services to New York from Zurich and a daily flight from Geneva. The enhanced schedules will help further consolidate SWISS’s strong position in the North Atlantic market.

SWISS is expanding its services to and from the USA: the airline will be adding a further daily frequency to its Zurich-New York route from May 1. The new flight, which will be operated with Airbus A330-200 equipment, will depart from Zurich at 13:00 (local time) and arrive in New York JFK at 15:40 (local time). The eastbound service will leave New York JFK at 21:00 and will arrive in Zurich at 10:55 the following morning.

The new frequency ideally supplements SWISS’s established New York services from Zurich and Geneva and offers an attractively-timetabled flight for both local and connecting passengers. In a further innovation, all SWISS flights between Switzerland and New York will be operated as codeshare services with United Airlines, and the present collaboration on the route with American Airlines will be discontinued.

SWISS will free up the additional capacity required for its new North Atlantic service by leasing-in an Airbus A300-600 from Hapag-Lloyd. This aircraft, which will feature a Business-and-Economy-Class cabin configuration, will be operated on the carrier’s African services to Malabo/Douala/Yaounde and Nairobi/Dar es Salaam. SWISS will also be increasing service on the Nairobi/Dar es Salaam route from three to four weekly frequencies from mid-June onwards.
