On Friday, 19 June 2009, SWISS operated its first fight from Zurich to Oslo. SWISS CEO-designate Harry Hohmeister officially opened the new route. The Norwegian capital is now served twice daily with an Airbus A319.
Despite a difficult market environment at present, SWISS is one of the few airlines currently capable of adding new destinations to its route network, thereby exploiting market opportunities where they exist. SWISS today began linking Zurich and Oslo with twice daily flights in both directions. Thanks to a codeshare agreement with SAS, SWISS customers can also take advantage of a third daily flight between Zurich and the Norwegian capital. With this new service, SWISS now offers its customers an even more comprehensive product for travel to Scandinavia. At the same time, the new service enables SWISS’s Norwegian customers to enjoy attractive connections via Zurich to its European and intercontinental route network.
Harry Hohmeister, SWISS CEO-designate, took the opportunity to be aboard today’s inaugural flight from Zurich to Oslo. “We are delighted that we are able to further invest in our route network in spite of the dark clouds of the global economic crisis,” he said. “This new connection will further strengthen the close economic ties between Switzerland and Norway.”
With the addition of Oslo to its route network SWISS serves a total of 90 destinations in 42 countries during the summer timetable period. Fifty-nine of its destinations are in Europe.
