Rainer Hiltebrand named new SWISS Chief Operating Officer

Rainer Hiltebrand has been appointed to succeed Gaudenz Ambühl as SWISS Chief Operating Officer, effective May 2010. The advanced timing of this announcement facilitates a smooth transition of duties.

The succession of Gaudenz Ambühl as Chief Operating Officer at SWISS has been determined in timely fashion. The position will be filled by Rainer Hiltebrand in May 2010. The current Operations Director at Zurich Airport is a highly qualified and experienced successor to Gaudenz Ambühl (58), who will remain with SWISS for approximately one additional year during which he will lend his support to various projects.

In announcing the appointment, SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister commented: “Gaudenz Ambühl will hand over the reigns of a division that reflects his high standards of quality and reliability to Rainer Hiltebrand. The advanced timing of this announcement facilitates a smooth transition and ensures continuity.”

Rainer Hiltebrand (55) has been Operations Director at Zurich Airport and a member of the Executive Management of Zurich Airport AG since 2002. During a career that began in 1978 he has been a Swissair pilot, chief flight instructor, chief pilot and Head of Operations. His experience in these key functions provides him with a wealth of expertise to draw upon. As Chief Operating Officer, Rainer Hiltebrand will also be a member of the SWISS Management Board.
