SWISS names its newest Airbus A330-300 “Glarus”

The latest addition to the SWISS long-haul fleet was given the name “Glarus” today. Airbus A330-300 HB-JHG, the seventh -300 of which SWISS has taken delivery, ensures that all services to and from New York JFK can now be operated with the state-of-the-art aircraft of the SWISS fleet.

“We are delighted that the name of Glarus now adorns one of SWISS’s most advanced and ecofriendly aircraft,” said Andrea R. Trümpy, the present mayor of Glarus, at today’s naming ceremony, which was attended by SWISS Chief Financial Officer Marcel Klaus and numerous guests and media representatives. Marcel Klaus was equally pleased. “In Glarus, we will now be carrying the nameof an important cantonal capital throughout our worldwide network,” he said.“And with the arrival of our seventh Airbus A330-300, we can now provide our customers to and from New York JFK with three daily services featuring the highest inflight comfort in all three seating classes.”

SWISS’s Airbus A330-300 offers one of the most advanced inflight entertainment systems, substantially more legroom in Economy Class, a two-metre-long lie-flat air-cushioned bed in SWISS Business and a “suite above the clouds” for itsFirst Class guests. The seven (of nine) A330-300s that have now been delivered are currently in service between Zurich and Dubai/Muscat, Mumbai, Delhi, Douala/Yaoundé, Nairobi/Dar es Salaam and New York, and on the Geneva-New York route.
