London City Airport expands security search facility

London City Airport opened 2 new security check-in lanes on Saturday 27th February bringing the total number of search lanes to 6. The Airport built the two full size search lanes to expand the security facilities and to improve security search processing times.

The Airport worked around the clock to build from scratch the new facility which was completed and operational in 4 weeks.

To accommodate the new security search area two commercial outlets, Meridian Line and Coffee Corner, were closed. Other measures taken by the Airport to help alleviate recent security search delays include the recruitment of new security staff and the purchase of new equipment.

With the recent heightened security levels we request passengers to keep cabin baggage to a minimum.

The airport plans to invest a further £7 million to significantly increase the capacity of the security search area in addition to enlarging the passenger departure lounge providing travellers with more space and comfort. Development works to enhance the terminal have recently commenced.

The enhancement works all take place during the airport’s closure times to ensure there is no disruption to passengers. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
