  • Zense

    High above
The Zense has a large rooftop deck on the 17th floor above the ZEN department store. Dining at such airy heights under constantly shifting coloured lights, guests have the choice between Thai, Italian, Indian and Japanese cuisine. Some just come to enjoy a cocktail. Young, successful Thais in particular are attracted to this venue and if you don’t make a reservation, you might have to wait for seating.

  • Rut Seafood Yaowaraj

    Inexpensive but delicious
This streetside food stand with its employees all clad in red T-shirts is easy to spot. Guests may sit on plastic chairs and stools but there is always a line of people waiting at dinner time and the employees have their hands full bringing fried grouper, grilled prawns, steamed scallops and ice-cold drinks to the tables. A meal for two comes to around 15 Swiss francs – and that’s for the best fish and seafood in the city.

  • Spring & Summer

    Light and airy
Spring & Summer is a wonderfully tranquil, light and airy oasis integrated into two glass buildings from the fifties. With indoor and outdoor seating, have a cocktail, munch on a couple of sweets from the chocolate counter or dine on truly delicious Thai cuisine. The most popular items on the menu are the crispy, deep-green Morning Glory Salad, with a spicy sauce and grilled river prawns, and the classic noodle dish Pad Thai with seafood.

  • Basil

    Gourmet
Those on the lookout for a culinary epiphany will find it in this fashionable but cosy and unpretentious restaurant in the Sheraton Grande Hotel on Sukhumvit Road. Basil features a dozen tables and a menu you could spend the evening going through. Chef Thanida Amornvatin recommends her classic curries and the salad of green papaya and pomelo or banana blossoms. Regular patrons leave room for dessert because the homemade coconut ice cream is sensational.

  • Eat Me

    Chic
This well hidden, very chic restaurant with art on the walls and a romantic terrace is only open evenings and is particularly popular with Bangkok's expat community. Guests dine by candlelight to cool jazz tunes on a menu of modern Australian dishes with Asian accents. There is a wonderful selection of wines from Australia and the rest of the world.

  • Distil

    Top view
The terrace of the bar Distil offers an incredible view over the river and the city from the 64rd floor of the State Tower. In lieu of tables and chairs, casual leather cushions have been laid over broad benches with a few bar tables standing around. Young Thais meet here for a cocktail; the deck is especially romantic and well attended when the sun sets. Even after dusk, however, it takes some luck to get a good spot.

  • Long Table

    With pool
This bar and restaurant, found on the 25th floor well above the skyscrapers of Sukhumvit, features a terrace pool and restaurant. Guests lounge on red leather sofas, the long bar is bathed in red light and the «long table», with room for a good 100 people, also glows red. The cuisine is alright, the wine list good and the house DJ is excellent, filling the venue with the right sound at the right volume for a steamy night in Bangkok.

  • Met Bar

    Hip
This club is part of the cool Metropolitan by COMO hotel and has been one of the hottest night spots since it opened five years ago. It offers just what you expect from a hip club: good music, beautiful people and great cocktails. This isn’t the place for a quiet talk but seeing and being seen can give you plenty to shout about. Especially over a heavenly pineapple martini.
