POLYMECHANIC  SPECIALITY AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE 

Polymechanics are specialists who are much in demand in the most diverse fields of activity. Aircraft maintenance includes the control, servicing and repair of aircraft and aircraft components. You will work in co-operation with other specialists to process orders and projects on aircraft and in the workshops.

Before the apprenticeship
  • Secondary level education (i.e. equivalent to GCSE or 'A' level)
  • Aptitude tests, taster apprenticeship and an interview.

The features at a glance
  • Duration: 4 years
  • Basic training in lathing, milling, drilling etc. is given in the first two years at the mechanical training facility in Basle or at MSW Winterthur (for trainees in Basle). In the 3rd and 4th years, the main training in aircraft maintenance / servicing will be given at the airports in Basle or Zurich.
  • Theory training at vocational school (day release): 1 or 2 days a week
  • Trainees are presented with the Federal Certificate of Competence at the end of their apprenticeship
  • SWISS supports attendance at special academic courses (professional certification)

Opportunities afterwards
Once you have completed your training and have been given your Federal Certificate of Competence, there are lots of things you can do: licensed aircraft mechanic category A, and subsequently category B1. Jet engine mechanic or aircraft component specialist.
This professional certification also entitles you to go on to university.
