Nicole Steffen, 1st year apprentice Charter Sales & Operation
"What I particularly like about my job is that it is so varied. I work in the Charter & Sales department, so I only see a small part of SWISS - and yet I'm right in the middle of things. I've got to know all about sales (charter agreements, ad-hoc charters, chain charters etc.) and in-flight & catering (loading the aircraft, galleys, trolleys, meals etc.) in my department. So many nations come together, and it takes so many little steps until an aircraft can take off. My interest in aviation is far from over!"
Patrick Eggen, former intern in 3 projects
"My training began with a Kaizen project (Japanese life/work philosophy - change for the better) in the field of product/logistics/purchasing. Then I moved to the "Environment" project team for the Key Account Planning department, where I was able to work quite independently and intensively. As the saying goes, 'good things come in threes', and I was then able to join a marketing project for the ground product. My personal highlight from my time at SWISS was a lunch with the environment team and the SWISS management, including CEO Christoph Franz."
Stefan Bürgi, 3rd year apprentice Key Accounts Direct Sales Switzerland
"I was absolutely smitten with the airline world right from the first part of my training with Swissport. My job with SWISS is extremely varied and has an international flair. I've been challenged by matters such as pricing and the fuel issue.
I've learnt lots of new things about the airline business, and I've also improved my language skills in my contacts with international businesses. I can certainly see myself spending time abroad as part of my further career.
One thing I shall never forget is returning from a team trip on the flight deck.“
After successfully completing his apprenticeship in August 2008, Stefan was given a 40% position at the Service Center in Basle. At the same time he also completed his vocational A levels.
Lena Frauenknecht, intern Team Marketing Switzerland
"Simply applying resulted in me moving from Lucerne to SWISS in Zurich. I think being involved in the Newsletter, providing support for marketing and agencies, events and communication is varied and interesting. My daily challenges include using several languages, plus having responsibility and being flexible. Above all, I thought having direct contact with private and business customers at events was exciting."
Katja Steiner, 2nd and 3rd year apprenticeship
from Team Marketing Switzerland via Human Resources to Key Account Direct Sales
"I'm just interested in travel and tourism. What I like about SWISS is that it involves destinations all over the world. Working in the HR department in particular, I meet pilots who have just landed in Zurich from many different countries.
Working in the various team - marketing, flight attendants, SWISS.COM, translating, pricing, communication, events, looking after the flight deck crews - has given me a better understanding of the whole company. I'm looking to gain further qualifications at a tourism college.
One of the highlights of my time at SWISS so far has been an aircraft baptism in Basle. We apprentices and trainees were even able to go on the first flight from Zurich to Basle."
