Montreux Jazz Festival A visionary and passionate jazz enthusiast, Claude Nobs created the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1967. Thanks to his flair, enthusiasm and openness, the festival soon evolved beyond the original concept to attain a unique, international dimension. In terms of scope it has long embraced forms of music other than jazz, attracting high-calibre artists from nearly every field, who come together to celebrate a broad range of styles. The Montreux Jazz Festival today stands for musical quality and variety and a multicultural atmosphere. Some 220,000 visitors from all over the world attend the festival each year, experiencing passionate artistry, which is complemented by the many free performances taking place along the shore of Lake Geneva. SWISS supports the Locarno International Film Festival Since its inception in 1946, the Locarno International Film Festival has made discovery its hallmark, launching new talent, facilitating burgeoning trends in cinematography and providing a platform for up-and-coming approaches to film-making. In recognition of its importance as an international gathering point, the Locarno festival has been selected by the national and international media as one of the six most famous film events in the world. Some 170,000 visitors, along with 1,000 members of the media and more than 4,000 influential film-industry figures from more than 30 countries, attend this first-class event on the shores of Lago Maggiore in the southern Swiss canton of Ticino. SOS Kinderdorf SOS Kinderdorf associations all over the world are grouped under the umbrella organisation SOS Kinderdorf International, which has its headquarters in Innsbruck. The SOS Kinderdorf concept has spread to 131 countries in all five continents. About 50,000 children and youngsters are living in 440 Kinderdörfern. SWISS distributes donor envelopes for small change in all currencies. The collected revenues are transmitted to SOS Kinderdorf. In 2005, SWISS passengers donated a total of CHF 160'000 to SOS Children’s Villages either at airports or aboard SWISS flights.
