SWISS adds more summer long- and short-haul services

SWISS will offer daily service to Los Angeles, to Johannesburg and to Santiago de Chile (via São Paulo) from mid-July onwards. Riyadh will also receive an additional weekend flight during the summer months. In offering these further intercontinental fights, together with service to more European destinations, SWISS is meeting its customers’ demands for greater flexibility and choice.

SWISS is increasing its flights to Riyadh for the summer months, in response to strong demand. The airline currently operates a four-times-weekly non-stop service from Zurich to the Saudi capital. This will now be supplemented by an additional Saturday flight from the end of June to the beginning of September. The extra service will be operated by an all-Business-Class jet of PrivatAir under a wet-lease agreement. The same aircraft has been operating flights on SWISS’s behalf on the Zurich-New York (Newark) route since the beginning of 2005, where it has enjoyed great popularity, especially among business travellers.

Daily service to existing intercontinental destinations
SWISS is providing additional options for business and leisure travellers to other intercontinental destinations, too, in its current summer schedules. The airline’s customers will soon be enjoying greater flexibility in planning their travel to Los Angeles, to Johannesburg and to Santiago de Chile (via São Paulo) thanks to the provision of additional flights. All three destinations will enjoy daily (instead of the present six-times-weekly) service from mid-July.

Further destinations for an attractive European network
SWISS is also broadening its European network this summer. Non-stop service to Salzburg was introduced on June 4, with Cirrus Airlines offering up to three flights a day under a codeshare agreement. And service between Zurich and Italy has also been expanded: Air One began offering daily codeshare flights to Naples and Catania at the beginning of May. SWISS now operates its own non-stop services to 43 European destinations; and a further 16 points within Europe are served by SWISS in collaboration with codeshare partners.

Swiss European fleet standardised
On the regional front, SWISS is further standardising its Swiss European aircraft fleet by disposing of its four Avro RJ85s. One of these aircraft has already been withdrawn; and from November onwards, Swiss European will operate an all-Avro RJ100 fleet. The standardisation will allow Swiss European to further simplify its processes and lower its unit costs; and this in turn will further sharpen the competitive edge of SWISS’s regional operations. The departing Avro RJ85s are also the oldest aircraft in the present SWISS fleet.
