The polymechanic is a sought-after technician in various areas of activity. The duties of those specialising in aircraft maintenance include checking, servicing and repairing aircraft and components. This work also entails close collaborations with a range of further specialist personnel, both on the aircraft and in the shops.

Application requirments
- compulsory education completed to Level A or B
- passing an aptitude test (to be sat after you apply)
- completing a taster apprenticeship
A four-year programme
The first two years of your four-year course will be devoted to basic training at the MSW in Winterthur, where you will learn such skills as lathing, milling, drilling, grinding and assembly. In the third and fourth years your training will be focused specifically on aircraft maintenance at SR Technics and SWISS at Zurich Airport. The theoretical training at the “Berufsfachschule” (technical high school) will take up 1-2 days a week. Upon completing your four-year apprenticeship you will be awarded an “Eidgenössisches Fähigkeitszeugnis” (Swiss federal certificate of proficiency).

Excellent post-apprenticeship opportunities
Once you have completed your polymechanic’s apprenticeship and earned your “Eidgenössisches Fähigkeitszeugnis”, you can go on to pursue any of a wide range of further training options:
- Category A licensed aircraft mechanic, followed by Category B1 powerplant mechanic
- aircraft components specialist
- aircraft technician
- master (advanced specialist) examination
- “FH” (university of applied sciences) engineer
- “HF” (college of higher vocational education and training) technician, e.g. at the Aircraft Engineering School (FTS). Keyword further training: SWISS supports attendance of special academic courses (professional certification). This professional certification also entitles you to go on to university.
SWISS also supports attendance at the “Berufsmittelschule” (vocational secondary school) to obtain the “Berufsmaturität” vocational baccalaureate, which entitles its holder to study at a university of applied sciences.
