SWISS Traditions

SWISS Traditions

SWISS Traditions is designed to familiarise our non-Swiss passengers with the historic and traditional highlights of our home country, in the tastiest way possible.

Over the course of the year we’ll observe a series of six national traditions with a culinary treat. You will enjoy specialties associated with the current event. Each of the six meals will be available in SWISS Business on selected inbound flights for one week.

SWISS Traditions in April – Sechseläuten

Zurich’s colourful “Sechseläuten” by special dishes

Between 11 and 17 April we’ll be celebrating Zurich’s colourful “Sechseläuten” by serving special dishes associated with the occasion on selected flights in Europe: Zurich-style veal and “Böögg”-style dessert.

The annual burning of the “Böögg"

The Sechseläuten

The people of Zurich bid farewell to winter with great fanfare. The annual burning of the “Böögg”, a snowman symbolising the cold season, is held in the city centre. The logic behind this ritual is simple: The quicker the snowman’s head explodes, the finer the coming summer promises to be. Mounted guild members riding in precise formation circle the burning figure until the explosives complete their mission. This year, April 16 has been set as the day the “Böögg” meets his fiery end.

  • SWISS Traditions in February – Basel Fasnacht (Carnival)
    Specialities of the Basel Carnival

February is all about Basel Fasnacht (Carnival). Between 22 and 28 February we will serve our SWISS Business passengers typical specialities of the Basel Carnival. Enjoy Basel’s famous “Mehlsuppe” (flour soup), onion quiche and a "Läckerli" mousse for dessert.

    The Basel Carnival

At exactly 4 a.m. on the first Monday after Ash Wednesday the city of Basel celebrates for 72 hours non-stop. The biggest carnival in Switzerland, referred to locally as "die drey scheenste Dääg” (the three most beautiful days) transforms the city center into a giant party zone.
