  • Optional Payment Charge for customers using credit cards
SWISS incurs costs with every payment for its services. In the case of payments made by credit card, these costs appear as a fee charged by the credit card companies on all amounts (disagio). The introduction of the Optional Payment Charge (OPC) includes the credit card user in the related costs. With this restructuring, SWISS is keeping abreast of a general trend in the airline industry.
The Optional Payment Charge (OPC) shall apply to all tickets issued as of 2 November 2011 for travel commencing in Switzerland. The amount charged for tickets for travel commencing in Switzerland will vary according to the region within which the destination lies:
    • CHF 6 per ticket for flights within Switzerland
    • CHF 11 per ticket for flights within Europe
    • CHF 22 per ticket for flights beyond Europe
The OPC also applies to credit card payment made for tickets for travel commencing in one of the following countries
    Travel starting in For tickets
    issued as of
    OPC per ticket
    Germany 02.11.2011 5 EUR (domestic)

    Ireland 15.10.2012 7,50 EUR

For the period 05.09.2011 up to and including 01.11.2011, the OPC applies for Finland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom only if tickets were issued in and travel commences in one of these countries.
For later credit-card payments in connection with rebooking, no OPC applies. The OPC does not apply to tickets for infants (younger than 2) or to Miles & More award tickets.
If you cancel all or part of your trip, the OPC is not refunded.
The OPC is shown separately in the booking process under form of payment chosen.
Private and corporate customers may still purchase tickets without having to pay any additional charges:
    • The OPC does not apply to non-credit-card payment made at a travel agency or SWISS Ticket Office
    • For corporate customers, the Optional Payment Charge does not apply to payment made through an AirPlus Debit Account offered by AirPlus
    • The OPC does not apply to the following alternative forms of payment used in connection with the purchase of tickets through www.swiss.com. These alternatives are determined by the country of commencement of travel:
