Johannesburg  Africa’s cultural capital

Is this really Africa? Numerous film crews, countless gallery openings, cafés, bars, theatre, an exciting trendy area – anyone interested in culture should get to know Johannesburg.

Of course Johannesburg is Africa! The main business and cultural centre of the entire continent defies numerous clichés. Home to musicians, students, writers and bon-vivants, the city is a thriving cultural hotspot. But also more than that. Its traditional nickname “golden city” could today well be revised to “green city”. With
10 million trees and 2000 parks, it ranks as one of the greenest cities in the world.
