East and West, China and Europe, the exotic and the well-known – Hong Kong makes it easy for visitors to fall in love with the city, since it excludes no one and makes everyone feel as if they are somehow at home.
Despite a population of just on seven million, Hong Kong doesn’t have the monstrous atmosphere of many other Asian cities; it is compact and easy to find your way around in. It’s possible to cover large parts on foot and there’s something worth looking at wherever you go. You can find luxury products from all over the world in its elegant shopping malls or curios from the Middle Kingdom in its tiny stores. There are expensive international restaurants but also humble “cook-shops” and both are worth a visit. Fans of the open air also have plenty of choice, since 70 percent of Hong Kong is rural and beyond the towers of glass and steel there are forests, mountains and the sea.
