It’s a rare city that can claim to be as beautiful as the one located at the north end of its namesake peninsula – with the breathtaking view of the Golden Gate Bridge, between the frothy Pacific and the expansive bay, the delightful charm of the Victorian houses and the incomparable hills and steep streets of San Francisco.
As idyllic as the USA’s most European metropolis may seem, San Francisco has always been a hotbed of revolutionary thought. The Beatniks of the 1950s liberated an entire generation from rigid thought structures. A decade later it was here that the flower children proclaimed their love revolution. And at the beginning of the 1970s a self-assured homosexual community created a vibrant sanctuary. Then Silicon Valley conquered the world on the winds of the information revolution. Today, San Francisco is at the vanguard of USA’s green movement.
