Shanghai is one of the world’s most exciting cities. Here, East meets West and tradition comes face to face with innovation. This year, the city offers a further attraction of visitors as the host of the Expo 2010 world fair.
The motto of Expo is “Better City, Better Life” – and Shanghai would like to act as a model for this ideal and make it possible for an extremely high population density to go hand in hand with a high quality of life. To this end, the city fathers have massively expanded the metro system, planted new parks, created green space and introduced emission standards for motor vehicles. This process is far from finished, however, so Shanghai still finds itself en route to the future.
