It’s not just incorrigible romantics who fall helplessly in love with Venice, the city that is literally sinking in its own beauty. The light seems to rise from the water to shine on its facades, domes and bridges. And away from the well-trodden tourist paths, it’s still home to delightful little squares with trees and old-fashioned cafés.
Leave before nightfall, though, and you’ll miss the city in its finest hours. With the dark and the stillness it brings, Venice seems as majestic, magical and mysterious as a Murano-glass chandelier gleaming in the candlelight.

A gondola ride is a “must” for any Venice visitor. Warmly recommended: the “romantic tour” for two with a bottle of prosecco included.
