Pre-Christmas Parade of Stars in The Big Apple
New York is a cultural fantasyland. Whether Carnegie Hall or the Metropolitan Opera – every night offers a feast of absolutely outstanding performances to admire and enjoy. We offer you four evenings of superlatives: Lorin Maazel conducts the New York Philharmonic Orchestra performing works by Bach and Beethoven; Seiji Ozawa conducts Tchaikovsky’s “Queen of Spades” at the MET with the star of St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, Russian soprano Maria Gulegina, in the title role; and friends Yefim Bronfman and Emanuel Ax celebrate the fine art of piano playing at the Carnegie Hall. For a change of pace, we will also treat ourselves to an evening of light entertainment in the form of the musical “Mamma Mia”, which features the music of ABBA.
New York’s museums are no less outstanding than its concert halls. Our trip includes a visit of the new MoMa (Museum of Modern Art), representative of the city’s many great locations for art, such as the Metropolitan or Guggenheim Museum. On Sunday we join the congregation at a Harlem church an participate in a traditional gospel service. And by travelling in November we can indulge in Christmas shopping Manhattan-style.
