From hand baggage to golf equipment, bicycles and excess baggage. To avoid long waiting times, we recommend that you obtain information before your departure in order to make the necessary preparations.
In modern-day air transport, baggage issues are governed by a variety of regulations. SWISS offers you advice for checking your baggage or the transport of your canoe. If you do not find a suitable answer in our baggage guidelines or if you are not sure about something, please ask SWISS directly.
A short guide
-
You are carrying 100 kg of baggage.
The free baggage allowance is indicated on your ticket (20K, 30K or 40K - alternatively PC for ‘piece concept’, e.g. for flights to the USA). Excess baggage fees depend on the route of your flight. If you know the weight of your excess baggage before your departure, please ask our reservation centre for a calculation. If your excess baggage is 100 kg or more, it is absolutely necessary to inform SWISS in advance.
-
Your fishing equipment is 120 cm long.
Small sports equipment up to a length of 140 cm, e.g. wakeboards and body boards, can be checked in without prior information. SWISS recommends suitable packaging. With the exception of golf and ski equipment, other sporting equipment must be indicated when the flight reservation is made.
-
You are taking along large sports equipment.
Large sports equipment (longer than 140 cm) must be indicated when making a reservation. Such items cannot be transported on smaller aircraft. Small sports equipment comes under the free baggage allowance.

Is there a rule for hand baggage ?
Irrespective of the booking class, SWISS defines 1 piece of hand baggage as 55 x 40 x 20 cm and up to 8 kg.

Your golf bag weighs 18 kg, and you take it along on all flights.
As a member of the SWISS Golf Traveller Club, you can take along your golf baggage (up to 15 kg) free of charge on the entire SWISS network (flights operated by SWISS), excluding charter flights.

You are a wine connoisseur and always carry your own cork screw in your hand baggage.
