Security regulations for hand baggage

Please note the security regulations for hand baggage.

Hand baggage

More and more airports are enforcing their hand baggage rules. SWISS also endeavours to avoid problems due to excessive hand baggage. The objective is your personal safety and comfort on board.

Please note our rules on hand baggage and save yourselves the risk of having to repack your baggage at the check-in counter. Baggage that does not comply with the rules must be checked in. The rules depend on your booking class.

Hand baggage may not contain any dangerous items, and must be stowed under the seat in front of you or in the overhead lockers so that it cannot fall out.

In exceptional cases, we ask our passengers to check in their hand baggage. This is primarily the case on flights served by smaller aircraft. Passengers travelling in SWISS Economy Class are allowed 1 piece of hand baggage.

In addition to the hand baggage, the following items are allowed on board if necessary (except infants)

  • 1 coat or blanket
  • 1 umbrella or walking stick
  • 1 ladies’ handbag
  • 1 small camera or 1 set of binoculars
  • reading for the journey

Stowage on board

Hand baggage must be stowed away on board. The first piece of baggage must be placed under the seat before you (if possible), the second one in the baggage compartment.
