Immigration regulations for the USA  Visa Waiver Program (VWP) 

This program permits citizens of specific countries to enter the USA without a visa for a maximum of 90 days. To see which countries are eligible under the Visa Waiver Program: www.dhs.gov

Your passport must also meet the following conditions:

  • If issued before 26.10.2005:
    passport must contain a machine-readable area
  • If issued between 26.10.2005 and 25.10.2006:
    passport must contain a machine-readable area and a digital passport photo
  • If issued on or after 26.10.2006:
    passport must be an “e-passport“, i.e. contain a chip with your biographic and biometric data and include a digital passport photo

You require a visa if

  • Your passport does not meet these requirements
  • You are not a citizen of a county participating in the Visa Waiver Program


Requirements for US Advance Passenger Information System

Prior to departing for the USA airlines are obliged to provide American authorities with specific passenger data.

The following data is collected by the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS).

  • Surname/first name
  • Gender
  • Nationality, passport number, validity of passport
  • Country of residence
  • Address while in the USA (first night)


Exempt from the address requirement are:

  • Citizens of the USA
  • Passengers holding a valid Green Card (residence permit) 
  • Passengers connecting within 8 hours to a flight to another country
