INFANTS

Flying with infants requires particular care. Please allow ample time for your trip to the airport and check-in.

Air travel may involve individual risks for infants and toddlers, e.g. in case of serious anaemia, congenital heart disease or too small or deformed lungs. Some of these diseases are hard to detect at birth or may develop later on. In such cases, it is possible that symptoms occur during a flight or generally at high altitude.

Pressure compensation in the auditory canal may be impaired in children due to the size of their pharyngeal and palatal tonsils. You can help your child by feeding him/her (breast or bottle) while the aircraft is ascending or descending.

In the following cases, SWISS recommends that you change your booking
  • Acute common cold
  • Illness involving high fever
  • Infectious children’s diseases such as pertussis (whooping cough), measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox) etc.
  • After surgery

If you are not sure, please contact your paediatrician.

Collapsible buggies/prams: Please enquire at the check-in counter if you are allowed to take your collapsible pram (when folded, roughly the size of an umbrella) up to the aircraft as free baggage. At your point of destination, you will receive your pram when leaving the aircraft or at the baggage claim.

Tip: Your hand baggage should contain everything you need for the first night after your arrival, in case your baggage should not reach the destination together with you.
