SWISS succeeded in increasing its seat load factor slightly during the first six months of 2006. Systemwide, the average seat load factor (SLF) stood at 77.7%, compared to 76.9% in for the same period a year ago (+0.8 percentage points). On intercontinental routes first-half year SLF decreased slightly by 0.9 percentage points to 82.3%. On European routes the SLF rose 4.3 percentage points to 68.1%. Compared to the first half of last year, the number of passengers carried grew by 5.7% to 5 million.
In June SWISS recorded an average SLF of 83.0% (previous year: 81.5%) and carried 936,524 passengers on scheduled services, a rise of 9.8% compared to the same month a year ago.
SWISS recorded an SLF of 86.1% on intercontinental routes in June, 1.1 percentage points lower than the figure of 87.2% for the same month a year ago. Capacity offered, expressed as available seat kilometres (ASK) grew by 7.4% in June against the same month a year earlier. Turnover expressed in revenue passenger kilometres for the same period was up by 6.1%.
On North Atlantic services in June, SWISS recorded an SLF of 94.5% (previous year 94.0%), despite the introduction of a third daily Zurich-New York flight. The SLF for the Far East was 85.0% (previous year 86.9%). On Middle East routes the SLF declined to 74.1% (previous year 79.7%). South American services had an SLF of 78.2% (previous year: 83.5%). Africa flights were exactly the same as last year in SLF terms at 75.6%.
On European routes SWISS recorded a gain in SLF of 6.4 percentage points in June to 76.4%. In doing so, SWISS clearly offset a capacity increase of 3.6% in ASK by boosting RPK by an impressive 13%.
Swiss WorldCargo saw business volume decline slightly in the first half of the year. The freight load factor for this period stood at 85.0% (previous year 86.0%).
