E-tickets have a host of advantages over the paper equivalents. Not only can an e-ticket not be lost or stolen; it can be sent (electronically) at ultra-short notice. It also enables the customer to check-in conveniently online and print out their boarding card at home or on an airport self-check-in machine.
An e-ticket can be easily rebooked and is available wherever the customer is located. SWISS e-tickets can be issued for combined bookings with SWISS Partner Airlines. Only a few exceptions are continue to be issued on paper ticket combined with certain partner flights.
Travel agents are issuing e-tickets only. If in some cases an e-ticket can not be issued, SWISS will issue a paperticket in the name of your travel agent.
PASSENGER RECEIPT
There are several destinations, where presentation of a travel document is mandatory upon arrival (especially US airports). We strongly recommend that you always carry proof of your e-ticket on you, no matter what your destination is.
CHECKING IN WITH AN E-TICKET
- At a self check-in machine: If you are travelling with hand baggage only, this is a way to avoid long queues at the airport. Prove your identity at one of the check-in machines - with your e-ticket number, Miles & More card or your credit card (the one you paid your ticket with). At least 30 minutes before the departure of your flight. The machine will print out your boarding card, and you can go straight to the gate.
- At a check-in counter: If you are checking in baggage or flying from an airport without check-in machines, you will get your boarding pass at a check-in counter. Present your passport or ID card to prove your identity. If your return flight is within 24 hours after your departure, check in for that flight as well.
- Web check-in: Check in online, select your seat and print out your boarding pass. The web check-in works between 23 hours and 1 hour before the departure of your flight.
