Between 20 April and 3 May 2016, SWISS will be celebrating “Banntag” in Liestal by serving exclusive dishes in SWISS Business on board selected European flights.
In accordance with ancient customs, people celebrate “Banntag” around the time of Ascension day in the canton of Baselland. Equipped with banners, pipes, drums and accompanied by the bang of muzzle-loaders and pistols, citizens (for a long time only men) pace along community borders and check, whether the boundary stones are still in place. What has now become a solemn custom, was once considered a civic duty to safeguard property.
