Further tangible customer benefits from the start of the winter schedules
Lufthansa and SWISS customers will enjoy further tangible benefits from the ever-closer collaboration between the two airline partners with the start of the new winter timetable period on Sunday, October 30. In addition to providing more destinations, denser frequencies and better connections, the partners will be bringing all their operations “under one roof” at their Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich hubs, offering customers the use of both partners’ lounges and allowing frequent flyer miles to be earned and redeemed throughout both partners’ networks. As a further innovation, customers will now be able to use electronic tickets (etix) for travel on combined SWISS and Lufthansa flights, enabling them to enjoy all the benefits that etix offers on services to SWISS and Lufthansa e-ticket destinations. For further customer convenience, SWISS flights can now be booked online via Lufthansa’s www.lufthansa.com website, while Lufthansa flights can be similarly booked online at www.swiss.com.
Coordinated services between Switzerland and Germany in the new winter schedules
With the start of the new 2005/06 winter timetable period, all Lufthansa and SWISS services between Switzerland and Germany will be operated as codeshares, and will also be further harmonised. For passengers this means more frequencies, more destinations and – through schedule coordination – better connections at the partners’ three hubs of Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich. SWISS offers services to 69 destinations in 41 countries in its new winter schedules, while Lufthansa serves 181 points in 76 countries. SWISS and Lufthansa customers travelling between Switzerland and Germany can now choose from no fewer than 563 weekly connections.
Joint ground operations under one roof
In a further collaborative innovation, all SWISS and Lufthansa flights will be handled at the same terminal at all airports in Germany and Switzerland. At the three hubs of Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich and in Basel and Geneva, customers of both carriers can even check in at the same check-in desks. The new common check-in facility will be extended to all other German airports from the start of the 2006 summer schedules. These innovative arrangements eliminate time-consuming journeys between terminals and permit better and shorter connections. Lufthansa and SWISS will also be moving “under one roof” in Dubai and Cairo from the start of the winter schedules. The new joint ground operations will be underlined visually to passengers at all the airports concerned.
Further benefits are provided on the frequent flyer front. Depending on their programme status, Miles & More and Swiss TravelClub members enjoy preferential baggage service, more generous baggage allowances and priority boarding. Reciprocal use of the partners’ lounges has been available to both programmes’ frequent flyer members since the end of July.
Miles & More to be SWISS’s new frequent flyer programme
The Swiss TravelClub will be integrated into Miles & More, Europe’s leading frequent flyer programme, on April 1, 2006, enabling SWISS customers to earn miles and redeem them for awards with an even wider range of airlines and partner companies. All Swiss TravelClub mileage balances will be transferred one-for-one to Miles & More, and any current Swiss TravelClub Silver and Gold status will be duly recognised in the new programme. Swiss TravelClub and Miles & More members have been able to collect and spend miles on both the SWISS and the Lufthansa network since July 20. Swiss TravelClub members earn Club Miles on all scheduled services operated by Lufthansa, and can also redeem their Swiss TravelClub miles for Lufthansa Free Tickets; and Miles & More members earn award and status miles on all services operated by SWISS and can book SWISS award flights
