24 August 2015
Reto Francioni has been proposed for appointment to the SWISS Board of Directors. The nomination was announced earlier today (Monday 24 August) by Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr at a media conference convened by the Swiss Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy & Communications in Bern. Reto Francioni, who is 60 and a Swiss national, should be appointed to our Board of Directors this autumn. His appointment would bring the Board back to its full complement of five members, following the departure of Monika Ribar.
“I am delighted that, in Reto Francioni, we are returning our Board of Directors to full strength with such a proven authority in the business and financial fields,” comments Chairman of the Board Bruno Gehrig. Reto Francioni is also envisaged to succeed Bruno Gehrig as Board Chairman when the latter retires next year.
Reto Francioni was the CEO of Deutsche Börse AG from 2005 until May of this year. He has also been serving as Professor of Applied Capital Markets Theory at the University of Basel since 2006. His previous positions include various further executive functions, such as Chairman of the SIX Swiss Exchange in Zurich, Co-CEO and Management Spokesman of Consors AG, Nuremberg and a member of Corporate Finance Divisional Management at Hofmann-La Roche, Basel. He has also worked for Credit Suisse, including service in New York; and he began his professional career with UBS in Zurich. Reto Francioni is married and has two adult children.
