As The Airline of Switzerland, SWISS has long been bringing people and cultures together. Last November the airline appealed for keen travellers from all over the world who would like to come and discover Switzerland. And now it’s looking for hosts well familiar with the local attractions to show these visitors around.
SWISS’s “A SWISS Welcome” contest is intended to offer visitors from all over the globe the chance to discover Switzerland together with local hosts who are keen and willing to share their home country’s attractions. The team-up offers the international guests a wonderful opportunity to see interesting sights, unique traditions and spectacular scenery, while also giving them a direct personal insight into Swiss culture and local daily life.
In a first contest phase, people the world over were invited to apply to make this unique trip to Switzerland by submitting a short video or a series of photos. With some 1,150 entries received from 17 different countries, the top candidates from each country were chosen through an exciting public voting process; and the winners, who will make the trip to Switzerland in March, were then selected from these finalists by a judging panel.
In the next contest phase, which runs until 31 January, SWISS is now looking for Swiss-based hosts to present the international guests with “their own personal Switzerland” when they visit in March. The whole experience will begin with a Welcome Event arranged by SWISS and featuring numerous Swiss highlights, which both visitors and hosts will be invited to attend. After this, each host will spend two days showing their particular guests their own personal highlights of their home country. Thanks to the support of its partner Switzerland Tourism (#inLOVEwithSWITZERLAND), SWISS will also be providing up to three nights of hotel accommodation for the visitors, the hosts and their companions, along with CHF 500 to spend on the trip. Following this, the visitors will have the chance to further explore Switzerland on their own, spend some time skiing or otherwise enjoy the Swiss Alps.
The Swiss hosts, who will also be selected by a combination of social media voting on their creative applications and a judging panel, will also be rewarded for their time and their energies with their own dream trip: a SWISS flight for up to four persons to a destination of their choice, together with some spending money, too.
The whole “A SWISS Welcome” contest is centred on the dedicated swiss.com/welcome platform, which is where would-be hosts can apply and others can register to take part in the voting process. SWISS is sure that the contest will attract a lot of further involvement, and will provide some unforgettable experiences for guests and hosts alike.
