Zurich Airport, 29 July 2016
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be joined by Swiss Olympic and fans at Zurich Airport on Monday to see the Swiss delegation off to the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The delegation of athletes and officials will then travel to Rio on a special SWISS flight. SWISS is the Official Airline and Partner of the Swiss Olympic and Swiss Paralympic teams.
SWISS will be joined by Swiss Olympic on Monday 1 August – the Swiss National Day – for a party on the Observation Deck at Zurich Airport to formally send the Swiss delegation on its way to this year’s Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fans who attend will enjoy various musical and culinary attractions as well as the chance to see their sporting idols close-up and in the flesh. And the journalists attending will be able to ask the athletes their last few questions before the Rio Olympics begin.
“We wish all our Swiss Olympic athletes a fair competition and every personal success,” says Bernhard Christen, Head of Marketing at SWISS. “Supporting Swiss sports is something we have done at SWISS for many years now; and as The Airline of Switzerland, we are of course delighted to fly the Swiss Olympic delegation directly to Rio and give them the best possible start for a successful Games.”
The formal goodbye will be followed by the departure of flight LX 96 to Rio de Janeiro, operated by a SWISS Boeing 777-300ER. The non-stop flight directly to the Games venue (which will then fly on to São Paulo) has been specially provided for the Swiss Olympic delegation and accompanying journalists. The special flight has been bookable for other passengers, too.
SWISS will also be flying the Swiss Olympic delegation of competitors and officials from Rio back to Switzerland on 22 August, the day after the Games’ formal closing ceremony.
SWISS has been the Official Airline of Swiss Olympic and Swiss Paralympic since last autumn. SWISS’s involvement in Swiss national sports also extends to partnerships with the Swiss Football Association, Swiss Ice Hockey and the Swiss Handball Federation. And SWISS further supports various international sporting events in Switzerland such as the International Lauberhorn Ski Races in Wengen, golf’s Omega European Masters Crans-Montana and the Weltklasse Zürich annual athletics meeting.
