Andreas Caminada and SWISS combine to create unique “pop-up restaurant” aloft


SWISS will be turning its flight LX 16 from Zurich to New York of 21 November into a “pop-up restaurant” above the clouds. Internationally-renowned Swiss chef Andreas Caminada will be making a one-off appearance on board to personally prepare and serve a special meal for the flight’s SWISS First, SWISS Business and SWISS Economy guests. SWISS is teaming up with Andreas Caminada, one of Switzerland’s best-known chefs, to offer a special inflight treat for any travellers with a particular affinity to gourmet delights. SWISS flight LX 16 from Zurich to New York on Friday 21 November is to be transformed into a “pop-up restaurant”, with Caminada and his crew on board to cook for all the inflight guests and personally serve his special meal creations, supported by SWISS’s own cabin crew team. Andreas Caminada is the proud holder of three Michelin stars and 19 GaultMillau points, and his restaurant at Schauenstein Schloss, a small boutique hotel in Fürstenau, Southeast Switzerland, is considered one of the 50 finest in the world.

“In addition to our award-winning ‘SWISS Taste of Switzerland’ inflight foodservice concept, we want to offer our guests a further and unique culinary highlight on this particular flight,” says Frank Maier, SWISS’s Head of Product & Services. “And we are delighted that, in collaboration with Andreas Caminada, we will be the first airline in the world to take the innovative ‘pop-up restaurant’ concept and offer it above the clouds. Caminada is equally excited. “The idea of a pop-up restaurant came out of my curiosity,” he explains. “I’m always keen to take new paths. And this whole project will be a real experience for me and my team, and one whose results I am very eager to see!”

Andreas Caminada will be taking his inflight guests on a culinary journey that appeals to all the senses. His food creations aloft will also be accompanied by wines that he has personally selected.
