SWISS appoints Chief Procurement Officer


Frans de Maat is to become Chief Procurement Officer at Swiss International Air Lines as of March 1. As Executive Vice President he will be responsible for the Central Services department and the optimisation of procurement processes.

A major portion of costs for SWISS is attributable to services from suppliers, especially in the areas of maintenance, ground handling, catering and fuel. With the newly created position of Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) the airline aims to optimise its procurement processes. In his role as CPO, Frans de Maat is also head of Central Services. Upon taking up his post on March 1 he will report directly to Ulrik Svennson, SWISS Chief Financial Officer.

A 47-year-old Dutch national, Frans de Maat is married and the father of four children. He originally trained as an electrical engineer. In the past 17 years he has acquired broad experience in the procurement field. Most recently he was Head of Procurement Emerging Markets at DHL in Brussels, where he was responsible for procurement in 93 countries.
