  • Rent a bike

    Freedom on two wheels
Along the coast, through dune landscapes with red and white striped lighthouses, past cliffs and juicy green meadows – Sylt’s lovely landscape is best explored by bike. To easily combat the wind, we recommend taking an e-bike. There’s plenty of bike rentals in Westerland, for example the Sylt Bike bike rental and sales shop.

  • The Samoa Sauna

    Sweating with a view
In the middle of the dunes, behind the fine sandy beach of Rantum, lies the beach resort Samoa - with one of the most beautiful saunas on the island. This means: Cultivated sweating in the Finnish wooden hut or the steam sauna, with a view of the North Sea. After this relax in a beach basket wrapped in wool blankets and a bathrobe. How about a cup of tea to go with that – or rather a glass of champagne? Rantum is located south of Westerland and the stop Samoa is reached by the bus route 2 within a quarter of an hour.

  • Lighthouse Hörnum

    Seafarer romance you can touch
They stand in the silver shimmering dune grass next to the sandy beach or stick out of the rape fields. To this day, Sylt’s lighthouses make sure that ships don’t run aground (onto the sand or rocks). They are the uncontested landmark of the island. These classically red and white towers are located in the North and South of the island. In the middle of the island, there is a black and white striped one and an octagonal one with red brickwork. The lighthouse Hörnum, however, is the only one on Sylt that visitors can access.

  • Walk across the mudflats

    Unique experience of nature
Feel the mud beneath your bare feet and discover life between the tides. Encounter crabs, oysters, cockles and all the other creatures domestic to the mudflat. During the walk one can learn a lot about the Wadden Sea National Park and enjoy the intensive contact with nature. Afraid to step on crabs and lugworms? Of course the walk can also be made in rubber boots.

  • Reisende Riesen im Wind (Travelling Giants in the Wind)

    Popular photo subject
When the up to four meter high, bright green figures with distorted proportions appeared on the square in front of the train station in Westerland, they sparked a heated debate. While some people were excited, others felt utterly provoked. That was in 2001. In the meantime the critical locals have gotten used to the avant-garde plastic family. For Westerland visitors these green giants are among the most popular photo subjects on the island.
