When it gets dark on November, 24th and the Christmas lights on Bahnhofstrasse illuminate the street for the first time, then it’s time for Night Shopping. The SWISS Travel Guide takes you on a small shopping tour through the night.
The perfect Night Shopping evening begins at the main station on Bahnhofstrasse. Buy a glass of mulled wine and stroll along the shopping street. When you hear the bells ringing at the Kurz jewellery store at six o’ clock on the dot, the Christmas lights switch on and the crowd cheers. Let the advent season begin!
L’Occitane en Provence
Good news for all gentlemen in search of presents: a small gift from L’Occitane is well received by your sweetheart. But be careful: once you enter this French retailer of soaps, creams and perfumes it might take a long time until you leave again…they have a huge assortment.
You couldn’t find anything at L’Occitane? Then continue to Globus! Whether you’re a hobby cook and connoisseur or an interior designer and fashionista – you’ll definitely find something in this multilevel department store. That evening the Christmas market and the Urner Alphüttli Chalet in front of Globus also open their doors.
Jules Verne Bar
After mingling with the crowd on Bahnhofstrasse for a while, take a short break in the Jules Verne Panorama bar. By the way, this is one of the favourite bars of our SWISS First Officer Sascha. His Crew-Tipp: “Enjoy a glass of champagne and take in the marvelous view of Zurich!”
Warmed up, the tour continues to the world of luxury watches and exclusive jewellery. This traditional family business displays its precious collection on several floors where you can admire it – even if you don’t want to buy anything.
The old town
After dinner we would recommend a little walk through the Old Town of Zurich. Go past the Fraumünster and over the Münsterbrücke to the Grossmünster. At night those sights are beautifully illuminated and give the city a romantic touch.
The night is young
If you only just got started now, there’s no reason to go home yet. In that case Thursday is the new Saturday – especially for the ones that don’t have to get up early on Friday. Our tip: have your first drink at the Longstreet Bar and then head to “Zukunft” – the future – where Dada Disco is at the turntables.
