San Franciscans love their street food trucks. And their food markets and open kitchens. In this city eating and drinking is an essential part of the inhabtitants’ lifestyle. And there is a lot to taste! A culinary challenge for SWISS Magazine author Vanessa Staub.
There is always a good reason to share a meal
Every Sunday they’ll gather on the Main Parade Ground for the "Presidio Picnic", where over 20 trucks will turn up and provide pizzas, shawarma, popsicles and tacos for all. It is a vast “one-big-family” event – and a firm fixture in many locals’ diaries.
The "SoMa StrEat Food Park" in the South of Market district specialises in supplying quick and tasty lunches for the local business community, while the "Spark Social SF" celebrates "Taco Tuesday" or "S’mores Monday". The locals have even developed an app! “Roaming Hunger" tells them where the nearest food truck can currently can be found.
Good to know
Tips are essential, make it at least 15 percent. But do check the bill: more and more restaurants now include the tip.
