You want to try out the best gourmet restaurant? You’re looking for a cosy café? You’re looking forward to relishing local specialities? Or you want to turn the night into day at a cool club? Let our select choices inspire you.

    • Yakup 2

      A classic
This is a typical «meyhane», that is to say, one of the traditional mezze and raki establishments for which Istanbul is famous. Diners make their way through the countless hot and cold starters that the waiter presents on a huge tray. Everything is rounded off with grilled and fried fish and – of course– as much raki as you like. The Yakup 2 is a classic: plain, inexpensive and good. Closed on Sundays.

    • Mikla

      Stylish
Mehmet Gürs is quite possibly Turkey’s best-known and most modern chef. Not only do the dishes reflect his Turkish-Scandinavian background, but so too does the atmosphere. The food is innovative, the mood relaxed, the guests chic and the views enchanting. After all, the Mikla is on the roof of the Marmara Pera Hotel.

    • Kafe Ara

      Cosy & nice
The Kafe Ara is one of the nicest eateries in the pedestrian zone, and it’s just around the corner from Galatasaray Square. It’s especially busy at lunchtime, when diners enjoy the good food and generous portion sizes. Incidentally, the café is dedicated to the great Armenian-Turkish photographer Ara Güler. It’s a wonderful place to tank up on energy for the next bout of sightseeing around Istanbul.

    • 360 Istanbul

      Chic & expensive
The 360 Istanbul has become more of an attraction than a restaurant: almost everyone who visits Istanbul wants to see the spectacular views of the city from the roof of this establishment. The restaurant is chic, the prices high, and the kitchen serves variations of modern Turkish mezze combined with international cuisine. At weekends the 360 Istanbul is a popular club.

    • Pandeli

      Popular
Ever since it was first opened more than 100 years ago, the Pandeli has been one of the most popular restaurants for good Turkish and Ottoman cuisine. It is said that Atatürk himself dined here, long before the republic was founded in 1923. The Pandeli is on the first floor of the historic Egyptian Bazaar (Misir Çarsisi), and offers fabulous views of the Golden Horn. Be sure to book and make sure you are given one of the popular tables with views. And make a note of the openings times: weekdays from 11.30 am to 3.30 pm.

    • Darüzziyafe

      Ottoman cuisine
This used to be a soup kitchen of the Süleymaniye Mosque that served students and the poor in the area. Since it was reopened in 1992, the Darüzziyafe has served exclusive Ottoman cuisine. It’s a delight to sit outside in summer and enjoy the wonderful culinary delights.

    • Saray

      Sweet things
Turkey is a veritable paradise for the sweet-toothed. No confectionery can ever be too sweet. Saray, the most traditional, the best and the biggest confectioner’s in the pedestrian zone, not only offers the famous halva and syrup-soaked baklava, but also serves a wide variety of puddings, milk desserts and crèmes. Simply heavenly.

    • The House Café

      Lovely location
Although there are now several House Cafés in Istanbul, this one is probably in the loveliest location: it’s right next to the Ortaköy ferry port. There are delightful views of the first Bosporus bridge and the famous Ortaköy Mosque, which projects into the water, from the terrace. The clientele of the House Café is trendy and chic. It’s the perfect spot for some brunch at the start of the day. Its speciality: mint lemonade.

    • Reina

      Hotspot
Europe on the one side, Asia on the other. The Reina is simply unique. Discerning and exclusive. In a word: first-class. It’s a place to eat, drink and party the night away – including celebrity-watching. However, cameras must be handed in at the cloakroom.

    • Club Frame

A cool clientele, stylish interior, good music and tremendous views. Modern Istanbul can be experienced, lived in the club Frame. Good food is served throughout the day at Frame, and later in the evenings it becomes a place to party and enjoy life.

    • Bar Leb-i Derya

      Loveliest views
It’s not terribly easy to find – but it’s well worth the search! Of all Istanbul’s many popular lookout points, this one is probably one of the loveliest. Especially at night, when the Bosporus and the lights of the old town sparkle. Although the Leb-i Derya is also a restaurant, the food is possibly more on the average side, so it might be a better idea to come along later on for a drink. Enjoy your evening!
