Nobody knows the SWISS destinations better than our staff. A restaurant that is not listed in every travel guide, an original bar, a charming café, or great tours with spectacular lookout points. Let our travel professionals inspire you with their tips.

The wonderful port on the North Sea calls me back repeatedly. In particular, to my favourite restaurant: Henssler & Henssler, which serves the most sensational sushi. The rib-eye steak sourced from free-range cattle is also very tasty. Managed superbly by Werner, Peter & Steffen Henssler (the latter a popular German television personality), the restaurant features a cool Nordic interior. If I ever meet Steffen there in person, I would be delighted indeed!

Globetrotter in Hamburg-Barmbek is the ultimate shopping tip for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers everything for a proper outdoor experience on its 4000 square metres, whether cold chamber, climbing wall or canoe basin. This unique shops is an essential port of call for anyone who is planning an adventure holiday.

Whenever I go to Hamburg, I have to go to the elbgold for my coffee. Annika and Thomas have built up a veritable coffee oasis in the middle of the Schanze. It’s not terribly easy for people who are new to Hamburg to find; the best thing is to follow your nose. The perfect breakfast: milky coffee and a fresh bagel with homemade cream cheese. After that, you know the day is going to be a good one. The second café is near the Alster on the Mühlenkamp, not far from the pretty Winterhude area.

If you want to see a different side to the Port of Hamburg, you can book at «Jasper» a port tour of that special kind. This exclusive coach tour takes you right up to the quay walls where you will never see your average tourist or citizen. You get to ride up to the container ships and watch the loading and unloading to get a far reaching impression of the work done on a ship like that. The website presents even more exciting tours.

The Südhang has long been one of my favourite places in Hamburg. Every day from 6 p.m., you can try a new wine, select a delicacy from the creative daily menu, or – in line with the old adage that you should «Never change a winning team», order the classic goat’s cheese salad for the umpteenth time. In the middle of the Schanze, the Südhang is also a good place from where to embark on Hamburg’s nightlife.
