Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, and has plenty for all tastes. It lies to the southwest of Thailand, and its capital is also called Phuket. The nature is paradisiacal with fabulous sandy beaches, turquoise seas, palm trees and mangrove woods.

All sorts of exotic fruits grow here that are sure to sweeten a stay, and for fitness-lovers the island offers a huge selection of sporting activities, including lots of water sports. There are breathtaking views of this miniature paradise from the densely forested hills. The many temples are no less impressive, and present themselves to visitors in all their magnificence in the sunlight.

And there are numerous museums for those who would like to know more about the island’s history and culture, including the well-known Thalang National Museum and the amazing collection of shells. By day, there is much to explore on Phuket’s popular markets, while the numerous bars and clubs on the island promise an exciting nightlife – or you can immerse yourself in the activities at the Thai Boxing Stadium.

    There is little in the way of public transport in Phuket, and the locals prefer to get around by motorbike.

    “The Big Buddha” is pure white, which represents the purity of the spirit. Standing 45 metres high and measuring 25 metres across the base, 135 tons of white marble were required for its construction.

    Phuket International Airport is 30 km north of the centre of Phuket.

  • Bus

    The “Phuket Airport Bus”, which stands outside the Departures terminal, takes half an hour to get to the city centre.

  • Taxi

    The taxi rank is outside the main airport terminal. It’s about a 30-minute ride to the centre.
