Nobody knows the SWISS destinations better than our staff. A restaurant that is not listed in every travel guide, an original bar, a charming café, or great tours with spectacular lookout points. Let our travel professionals inspire you with their tips.

The Hotel degli Aranci is in the elegant suburb of Parioli, and every time I go there it delights me anew. The wonderful garden with orange trees, elegantly furnished rooms and delightful terrace really are breathtaking. The location is perfect, and the delightful area is lovely to explore.

Check out «Eataly»! This unusual supermarket accommodated in a former city air terminal offers some 17,000 square metres of Italian food delights. And every department, from the gelateria and the fish to the wines and the beers, has samples to taste. It’s a real gourmet shopping experience, and a great place to find gifts to take home. Eataly is located about five minutes from the city’s Ostiense rail station, and Piramide is the nearest metro stop.

You can’t go to Rome without sampling some genuine Roman cooking. My restaurant tip for this would be Sora Lella on Via di Ponte Quattro Capi. They have a great gourmet menu of Polpettine di «Nonna Lella», Gnocchi di Patate all’Amatriciana, Rollè di Abbacchio disossato al forno con Sciacciata di Patate, Torta di Ricotta Romana Dop con Confettura di Visciole and Cestino di Pane. Delicious!

After a long shopping or sightseeing tour around the Via del Corso and the Piazza del Popolo, I can only recommend the Enoteca Buccone. From Monday to Saturday (and in the evening on Friday and Saturday), it serves simple but delicious lunchtime meals. My absolute favourite is the melanzane alla parmigiana, a type of lasagne that is made with aubergines instead of pasta. Include a generous glass of red wine, and you’ll be more than ready for an exciting afternoon in the Italian capital.

If you like walking, head for Piazzalle Giuseppe Garibaldi, which is about two kilometres from Castel Sant’Angelo. From there you have an amazing view of the city and the Vatican which is well worth the walk. And as you head back down, take Via Garibaldi: if you’re a fan of ice creams, you can then try out one of my favourite Roman addresses: Gelateria alla Scala, which on Via la Scala.
