    • Stainzerbauer

      Culinary institution
The Stainzerbauer is located in one of the oldest town houses in Graz Old Town, close to the cathedral and the theatre, and is widely regarded as the culinary institution in Graz. Host family Pfeifer provides superlative quality in its cosy, original pub and the Wert visitor garden, which is always a delight in the summer. Chef Werner Wiener composes his own new creations as well as updated versions of traditional kitchen classics. Not to be missed: the boiled highland beef from Styria, served with sautéed crushed potatoes and horseradish.

    • Der Steirer

      Eating locally
The name says it already – really good Styrian food is served here. And there’s even Styrian tapas! From classical Schnitzel and Tafelspitz (boiled meat in broth) to Käferbohnen salad (runner beans) and Frittaten soup (crêpe-style pancakes sliced into stripes) – everything is extremely delicious and mostly also quite heavy, which is typical for Austrian cuisine. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the wine menu offers the best wines from Styria, which you can also buy in their own shop.

    • Aiola Upstairs

      Over the rooftops of Graz
The Aiola Upstairs is certain to be a visual and culinary highlight. The terrace on Graz's Castle Hill has seating for 120 and offers the most breathtaking views of the city. Winter and summer alike, it is a popular destination for romantics meeting for a tête-à-tête. The kitchen is open all day long to take care of its guests' creature comforts. Our secret tip: take advantage of the extensive breakfast and brunch offer, served from 9 a.m. until noon, and then return in the evening for a dinner by candlelight. We recommend booking a table to be sure of the best views.

    • Landhaus Keller

      For gourmets
Whether in the Steirer-, Bürger- or Landhausstube dining room, the vast columned cellar or the shade of the garden, young chef Lorenz Kumpusch delights his guests exquisitely in every corner of the Landhaus-Keller. Since 2008 his multiple award-winning, Styrian-style dishes have no longer been an insiders' tip among gourmets. Only dishes that truly suit the surroundings are served. Beef specialities such as the "Federl" or the "Schulterscherzl" are brought to the table in a copper casserole dish, and absolutely are not to be missed.

    • Ginko

      Vegetarian at its best
From Austria to India, from Spätzli to Curry: guests can help themselves at the abundant buffet here – with everything being healthy and vegetarian, sometimes even vegan. Ginko also puts emphasis on sustainable, regional and organic products, and some things are even home-made, like for example the different types of pasta. It’s worth taking a look into the cake display to find something sweet and delicious – and of course vegan.

    • Schlossberg

      Wonderful ambience
You can't dine closer than this to Graz's landmark, the clock tower. The Schlossberg-Restaurant, with a bar and its own beer garden, is situated at 464 metres, overlooking the rooftops of the Old Town, and is equally popular with tourists and locals. Whether you’re enjoying a freshly-drawn, locally brewed beer in the pleasant garden, a cocktail in the bar with its own cellar, or an elegant five-course meal from the internationally-orientated kitchen, the fabulous views of the Castle Hill can be enjoyed everywhere.

    • Le Schnurrbart

      Proper cosiness
The charming name (“Le Moustache”) itself already attracts lots of curious visitors. In a very homely living room atmosphere with rustic furniture and soft cushions, you’ll get tasty crepes, either sweet or savoury. On top of that there are always home-made cakes of all sorts. Make sure to sit in the lovely garden outside in the summer! The Freie Gallerie (“free gallery”) is located directly next to the café, and offers an exhibition room for hobby artists. It’s also worth it peeking inside there.

The views from the rooftop of the Kastner & Öhler department store are completely unobstructed – and 360 degrees to boot. You can gaze over the Graz Old Town as you bite into a tasty croissant. As well as various breakfast options such as "Coco Chanel" and "Karl Lagerfeld", it also serves various à la carte dishes such as "I love my Clubsandwich", egg dishes from happy hens, and lots of sweet treats. • Blendend

      Cosy brunch
You’ll feel absolutely marvellous here – “blendend” as you would say in German! Especially if you come for the delicious and abundant brunch on the weekends. Besides home-made spreads like pumpkin seed spread and egg spread, the plates are filled with ham, cheese and other breakfast treats. Dishes and furniture are reminiscent of grandma’s place and the waiters always have a smile ready for their guests. On weekdays it only opens at 4pm, turning into a cool bar where you should definitely treat yourself to a gin and tonic.

    • Kork

      Cakes and beer
It takes two creative brains to turn a rather bleak space into a homely feel-good haven. The café on the Technical University campus offers tasty home-made cakes and varying lunch menus. In the evenings the 2-storey room with lovely plants and rustic furniture transforms into a lively bar. Sometimes live music fills the room or colourful flea markets decorate the outside area.

    • Schwalbennest

      In the centre
Like swallows, guests can observe the vibrant city life from the balcony of this café in the Franziskaner quarter in the Old Town. As an alternative to coffee, order one of the vitamin-packed juices – they’re a real energy booster! But don’t miss out on the delicious cakes, like the poppy seed cake and the Linzertorte, an old Austrian crumbly pastry cake with redcurrant jam.

    • Maria Magdalena

      A world of its own
Situated at the heart of Graz, the Maria Magdalena is the symbiosis of cool bar, relaxed café and exclusive restaurant. The lounge interior, designed by Viennese architects, is perfect for chilling, and creates a delightful contrast to the historic "Gründerzeit" building. The garden terrace is a busy spot in summer, while on winter nights music provided by fabulous DJ nights is enjoyed in the exciting ambience inside. But a word of warning: the guests at the Maria Magdalena are so hip that a party mood can develop quite spontaneously.

    • La Enoteca

      Relaxing and pleasant
This establishment can be found in a cosy courtyard, directly opposite Kastner & Oehler , and serves an excellent selection of Styrian and international wines that can be enjoyed here and bought to take away. In addition to the wine bar, an uncomplicated shop offers a wide range of delicacies. Our tip: ask for Fink's pumpkin seed pesto. And if you're really hungry, opt for a plate of antipasti or home-made pasta.

A visit to the Stadtpark should be on your programme anyway – even more so because of the cool Park House. • Running Horse

      English Pub
You’ll feel right at home here – it’s homely, gregarious and very English. And it’s almost always full, which is probably because the Running Horse is very small. The menu offers dozens of beers, a lot of whiskies and even cider, which is normally a rarity in Austria. With easy-going background music, an evening at the Running Horse is bound to be a cosy and sociable. If you start feeling hungry, the delicious Contra Punto pizza is right next door – they even deliver directly to the pub!
