      When the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong closed its doors on New Year’s Day 2006, the end of an era was mourned by its international guests and by the residents of Hong Kong. But now there is a new Hyatt Regency – and although it might be in a different place, the spirit of hospitality is exactly the same. The 381 guestrooms are spacious and decorated in warm shades of burgundy and grey. It has the lovely Regency Club, various restaurants, a gym and a pool.

      Hotel with art
      Four hundred works of art adorn the walls of the Upper House, and the modern minimalistic interior with lots of wood, stone and furniture – all light and bright – is a delight. One hundred and seventeen large rooms with equally large bathrooms and wall-high windows are arranged between floors 38 and 48 of a modern glass tower. Café Gray, the hotel’s restaurant, and its bar are ultra chic.

      Causeway Bar has the city’s first designer hotel: the Jia was designed entirely by Philippe Starck. It is bright, chic, cosmopolitan and a little opulent – but also extremely comfortable. The rooms/studios all have luxurious marble bathrooms, the latest high tech equipment and a kitchenette; there are lots of lovely free goodies, and the hotel's two restaurants Y's (bistro) and Opia (fine dining) are also extremely popular with the locals.

      The snow-white colonial building of 1891 used to be on a flat hill overlooking the bay, and was the headquarters of Hong Kong’s marine police.
