The Italian region of Apulia offers a wealth of cultural treasures and idyllic, azure blue bathing coves. Brindisi is part of the beautiful Salento region – the "heel" of the Italian boot.

Together with the provinces of Lecce and Taranto, its outstanding scenery and the antique relics have made it a popular destination for tourists in recent years. The city was highly prized, even back in Roman times.

Its well-sheltered natural harbours were the most important ports on the southern Adriatic at the time of the Roman Empire, and served as the gateway to the Orient. Even today, well-preserved buildings and monuments from this golden age can be found in the city, such as the Church of S. Giovanni al Sepolcro, with its beautifully ornate Roman columns.

Visitors can enjoy peace and quite in Brindisi, as well as enchanting sandy beaches outside the city. The Adriatic is perfect for enjoying a day out in the crystal-clear water. Those who prefer to be more active are sure to enjoy cycling and hiking in the Mediterranean maquis around Brindisi, in amongst the green olive trees. Evenings provide the perfect opportunity to recover with cool drinks and the fabulous traditional cuisine of Apulia.

All kinds of seafood, as well as fresh local cheese specialities, are accompanied by delicious baked goods such as focaccia and tarali. In the old town bars, visitors can enjoy sitting back and enjoying the "dolce far niente", with pleasant temperatures all year round – a true break from home!
