With more than 12,000 islands set in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives are probably the closest thing we have to paradise on Earth.

The large number of tropical islands with palm trees swaying softly in the wind and the vast expanses of white sandy beaches surrounded by colourful underwater kingdoms are a dream come true for sun worshippers, keen divers and holidaymakers seeking relaxation and romance.

Here, you can submerge yourself, in the truest sense of the world, in a fantastical world full of colourful tropical reefs, countless fish in all of the colours of the rainbow and impressive sea dwellers such as turtles, manta rays and sharks. But tourists visiting the Maldives should not restrict themselves to the world under the water.

There is a whole range of sights to be discovered on land, too: Male, the capital city of the Maldives, offers a number of enticing attractions and experiences: for example the market on Chaandhanee Magu, where you can buy traditional souvenirs such as hand-carved dhonis, the Seagull Café, offering top-class ice-cream, or the popular Sala Thai, which serves up delicious Asian food. Sultan Park is the perfect place to relax a bit before continuing on foot through the narrow lanes, enjoying the «Dolce Vita». It's simply beauty made in paradise.
