Saint Petersburg

Nobody knows the SWISS destinations better than our staff. A restaurant that is not listed in every travel guide, an original bar, a charming café, or great tours with spectacular lookout points. Let our travel professionals inspire you with their tips.

If you’re visiting Saint Petersburg in the summer, you should not miss this spectacle under any circumstances. You’re best coming to the river bank in Dvortsovaya or Admiralteyskaya at just before 1 o’clock at night. These two lookout points are ideal for observing the two largest bridges lift over the river. You can also buy tickets for the popular night tour. Then you take the boat to the bridges. A special highlight is presented by the bridges lifting during the «white nights». At all events, stay on the right side of the bridge. Otherwise you’ll find yourself cut off from some parts of Saint Petersburg until the bridges drop the next morning. This spectacle lasts one to two hours and is the most impressive in June and July.

I love this restaurant with all of its Caucasian and Azerbaijani specialities. The ambience is reminiscent of the Arabian Nights. The fare here is excellent. The menu is a mile long – but luckily in English as well, and the dishes are perfectly seasoned. A great alternative when you’re looking for something other than the substantial Russian fare.

I can recommend the Hotel 3 Mosta as a special place to stay the night. This modern boutique hotel is ideally located in the heart of the city, only a few steps from the Church of the Saviour on Blood.
All important sights are within walking distance from this hotel. A special insider tip is the Krasin. This a Russian icebreaker converted into an ocean museum.

In summer the city presents a particularly magnificent sight from the water. A trip by ship is simply a dream. My personal favourite is the route over the Griboyedov and Kryukov canals to Moyka River. These routes take you under the impressive Lviny, Bankovsky, and Pochtamtsky bridges. On this route you can admire the sights like Nikolsky Cathedral and New Holland Island. These attractions lie far from the tourist centre, and are otherwise difficult to reach on a short city trip. The tour starts at the Griboyedov Canal. Here you can also buy the tickets. A trip takes a good two hours. The best time for this is between May and September.
