Nobody knows the SWISS destinations better than our staff. A restaurant that is not listed in every travel guide, an original bar, a charming café, or great tours with spectacular lookout points. Let our travel professionals inspire you with their tips.

«The Vasamuseet next to the Nordiska Museet is built around a sunken war ship that has been recovered in the fifties and sixties from the clay grounds just a short way from the city of Stockholm. Back in 1628, the Vasa survived just two squalls and a little more than a kilometre of sailing before it sunk and was forgotten for roughly 300 years before it found this new and carefully maintained home in Stockholm, the Vasamuseet.»

Stockholm is an absolute dream of a city. It's even more fun when you stay in a dream hotel – and that's just what we did! The Story Hotel is cool and casual, and located in Östermalm – the hip district with a happening social scene. The restaurant is fantastic and a popular venue amongst locals – as is the bar. Perhaps not surprising, given that it's so laid back and personal without losing any of its style.

Stockholm is a great place for superb food – and it's also very varied. This is why I have a whole line-up of favourite restaurants: the B.A.R. mainly serves up chargrilled fish and shellfish. Both Gashaga Sealodge and Mälarpaviljongen afford diners wonderful views across the water. Fans of South American food should head along to Supper. And I also like going to the Stallmästaregarden, which is traditionally Swedish.

Luckily, I accidentally bumped into this restaurant where you get the city’s best Köttbullar. The famous meatballs are served in different variations. Its popularity with the locals definitely speaks for itself. The location in the trendy quarter Sofo on the Södermalm island and its hip interior also add to its prominence.

One of my favourite places in Stockholm is the idyllic fishing village of Vaxholm. The well-preserved wooden houses are now home to a whole host of nice shops, charming cafés and restaurants. The village is also the perfect starting point for exploring the huge archipelago of Stockholm.

My absolute favourite place in summer is the Café Rosendal on the green island of Djurgården. This is the place for enjoying home-made cakes beneath the apple trees when the sun comes out – simply divine! In the autumn, a walk along the nearby Djurgårdsbrunnskanalen is just wonderful.

This restaurant is located on the 25th floor of a high-rise building and offers a 360° view of Stockholm's colourful houses. The fantastic French and Swedish cuisine there is just as enticing as the bar on the floor above, which is a great place for indulging in a sophisticated cocktail.

Fancy sampling one of the many Swedish specialities or simply taking a break from an exhausting tour of the city? If so, the cosy Under Kastanjen is just what you need! This economic restaurant is located in Stockholm's old town in the centre of Stadsholmen island. And as its name suggests, it's wonderful to relax beneath the chestnut trees in the summer. I can really recommend the home-made meatballs – they simply have to be tried!

This place is so pretty – not at all like your standard fast-food restaurant! There are pots of herbs everywhere, the walls are decked with copper pans and the shelves are adorned with all sorts of kitchen utensils. The restaurant itself is decorated in sober black and white. The two-storey Vigårda serves up freshly prepared burgers, home-made fries and crisp salads. The perfect place for a pit-stop in between shopping and sightseeing.

The pancakes are a definite must in the Greasy Spoon! Deciding what to eat is no easy task with traditional items such as English breakfast and Eggs Benedict on the menu. Fortunately, delicious breakfast options are available every day of the week. They don't take bookings, which means there could be a wait for a table – but it's definitely worth it!

When you enter the Columbus Hotel, words like «cute» and «cosy» come to mind. It's a very comfortable place where you feel at home right away. The staff is incredibly friendly and the entire ambiance is simply enchanting. You'll see antique ornate touches, stone stairs and vaulted ceilings. The large breakfast buffet is great fortification for a day of exploring Stockholm. And if you return in the later hours, there are muffins, tea and coffee at hand free of charge. The best part is that a night here is quite affordable. It’s a wonderful hotel!

The top tip for summer is a trip to the Schärengarten. It exudes that pure Swedish feeling that you get in the best Astrid Lindgren films. The midsummer festival is my favourite time of year for going to Grinda island, which can be reached by ferry very easily.
